Bro and I got out onto the bay on a charter boat this weekend.

We were drifting live minnows for California halibut and striper. A cool experience for both of us since we had never fished in the bay before.

Some pics...

We boarded at Berkeley and ran to SF for bait

I was first to hook up (with a little sand shark) but the stripers soon followed.

The other anglers on board landed some nice stripers, but my bro and I just got small keepers and shakers.

Oh well, we really wanted to get into the 'buts! and we did.

Looks like you guys had a great day on the bay and came away with some mighty fine fillets. Booking a charter like that is probably the best way to learn some new water and techniques and it really paid off.
Thanks for sharing your trip with us.

Jay's a good capt. and works hard to get you on fish. What was the final count on the butts?,,,gregg

Only 3 halibut landed & retained for the five anglers. My brother is pretty lucky and got two of them, I got the third one. The other group we were paired up with lost about 3 or 4 halibut due to a variety of user errors(?).

Not familiar with the bait enough to judge it but they were all alive!

I will definitely get out there again.

Take care,

When I went out last July on Bodega for salmon we hooked 2 and I landed one. The other was one of those user errors. Felt bad for the guy on one hand but felt good about myself that I knew enough to fight and land the fish.

Looks like a good trip anyway. I've never fished on Jay's boat but have met him and know he works hard out there for clients.
