I've always used 2-4lb mono for fishing shad on the American. Curious if anyone uses braid or fluorocarbon ? If so why?
Not talking on the Sac where 1/2 to 3/4 oz weight is needed. I can't stand using egg sinkers for shad. I'm talking drifting 1/32 oz jigheads w grubs and no extra weight. Silver bullets are a blast on ultralight gear!!

Some bobber dudes use braid to go to their bobber then a mono leader.

Don't stand too close to them with mono, their braid will cut it when they cast......
Floro? Never heard of her....

Braid is good to detect soft bites. But when it's on it don't matter what u use. Shad aren't picky!

I use 20lbs braid and 15lbs leader when fishing from the bank on the Sac River. On a bobber set-up, I use 20lbs braid with 6lbs leader or straight 6lbs test when drifting on a split shot. Tuf-Line and P-Line CX Premium.

On the American, I use 4 lb test with as small a split as I can get away with to get the 1/32 oz. jig down, depending on the depth and flow. I started very small (split shot) last night without a bite, went a little bigger, and started slamming them. You just have to find the zone and get that jig travelling through it.
