I awoke early and was looking forward to a day inside avoiding the heat. Then I got a better idea. The road to Blue Lakes had recently opened and I wanted to check it out for the first time in a couple of years. Up 88 and left on the Blue lakes Road. As always this is a very beautiful trip. I parked by the dam on Lower Blue. It was a beautiful morning with me the only one there. It seemed that there had been a CDFW in the previous last couple of days but the bows were very small, on the top and wanted nothing to do with my Gold Kastmaster. Fortunately by letting my lure sink I was able to get some action from the resident LCT. I got one and lost 2 more on the shore. Next I went up to Upper Blue. This lake was very low and with the campgrounds just opening, a little crowded. Took a few casts but no love. The snow still hangs on some of the peaks and there were patches of snow among the trees. It was a lovely day in the California Alps and Alpine County.

The road requires a 4WD. I have walked it as far as Forestall Creek a few years back. Nice walk.
