Since the creek that flows 100 yards from my back yard opened up on Friday the 1st, I decided to go fish for a few hours. To my surprise it was worth it.
I caught 3 Brown's up to 14 inches and 4 little Bows. 3 of which were 4 inches or less I'm guessing they were this year's stock growing up there.

I was fly fishing with the hopper, copper, dropper set-up. A hopper dry fly for my indicator, 18-24 inches under that I tied on a Copper John (black with rubber legs) and 12 inches under that I tied on a caddis nymph.

You've got a hell of a back yard.

When's the BBQ. I'll bring the hamburgers and a rod.

Seriously, those are beautiful fish and it's nice to see healthy fish that didn't come out of a truck.

Thanks for sharing.

4" bows would be last years brood. Rainbows are spring spawners, their fry would be an inch at most by now.

Beautiful browns on the upper Truckee, one of these weekends Im hiking into Meiss Meadow for some cuts

I was wondering if they were fry or not right now. I saw some pigs spawning this last spring as usual, I like to watch them and the Brown's in the fall. 4 or 5 years ago my friend and I saw a huge Koke behind his house trying to spawn with no other Kokes in the river.

I'll be hitting up Meiss for some Cutts also hopefully soon.

Depending on the size and type of stream, 4" can be a 1 year fish or a fully mature fish ready to spawn (from what I hear from fishery biologists. There are even records of 4" males spawning with huge female steelhead. They sneak into the redds and fertilize the eggs). In the lower upper Truckee, its probably last years spawn.
