Camped with a friend with our girls and another friend Friday and Saturday. The fishing was standard for the opener which is off the hook! We landed at least 200 cutts for 9 hours of fishing on Saturday. Today we landed 80-90 cutts for 4 hours of fishing.

All were caught on jigs 80-30 feet of water. Everything worked if we put in there face but because of the winds 2oz.
P-Line Lazer Minnows were the ticket!! Most of the fish were in the 4-6 pounds some up to 8 but that was the biggest (10 pounds smaller than last year) .
There was one point today we all 5 hooked up and landed. It was hard to have a beer in the boat it was on!!

That sounds like one hell of a trip there. You guys daughters will grow up and when fishing with there family's they will tell the story of how there dad's caught 100's fish in one trip. Priceless.kind of like how we here you could walk across the rivers on salmon backs.

CC Friday should be really good as well as the first two weeks. The wind is key to getting in to them more than anything. Like the ocean find the bait and jig them up then you'll have sore arms from all the fish!!!
Good luck to you and everyone else!!!!!!!!

Thanks, great report, great pictures. Can I ask you what color of the Lazer Minnow worked best or did it not matter?

Those were all pinched barbs. We were lucky enough to get our cooler and tackle checked by the tribal rangers.

I use a dremmel on my stuff, nothing works as good as that. The other is a scent on things, I have had a ranger put it to his lips to see if there is anything on it. We did see a couple try fishing with Power Bait once, but we gave in and told them the rules. Nice pic's of the little one (I have three granddaughters) as well as the fish porn..........Jetspray

We don't even bring the scents on board because of that. But we did see a tribal member (I'm assuming) shore fishing with worms. The worm container was clearly visible to his side.

I've seen them using chubs under a bobber. They do work well.

I bet! I've caught a few fish with 12" chubs on there mouth. Why they took my fly or lure is unknown with all of that meat in there mouths!

Fishing what is convenient and close to home in usual and accustomed places is hard to beat. One day we'll get up to that lake and fish those monster trout with you folks!

Best,

+1 mike, yes the opener is always insane, but in the 10 or 15 years that I have made the opener, I have
never seen it like that. from the boat ramp you could not see the end of the line of vehicles on the road to
the pelican turnoff. there were so many on the water, if the winds would have come up, there would have
been a lot more damage at the docks. that lake can get very dangerous in just a couple of minutes.
ALWAYS wear you life preserver, in case of an accident, it could do its job if you give it a chance.

I was there on the opener. We had 4 people in our boat and we ended day 1 with 30 fish total boated. We only kept 5. Only one was over 24" @27" 7.5#. The rest were smaller either in the small bracket or just in between 21-24. The wind was brutal for us so we trolled up north of the ramp along the shore line. Then trolled south down way past the ramp. We tried jigging at the pyramid for a bit but we only got 1. Once we ran up to Hells Kitchen we graphed a lot of fish but only got about 6 hook ups. One was a triple though so I was netting fast and furiously. We hit the ramp to load up at about 6pm. Last year was a lot more big fish over 24" Still a great day in all. As we were getting ready to launch we watch 2 older guys roll there boat over. Luckily the search and rescue boat was right next to them. They both made it out fine and when we cam back they had already got the boat out.

That was definitely the worst opener to launch. We waited an hour or more in line. But it was worth waiting in line if you brought some patients and coffee.
