With the entire system blown out and a forecast for more warm systems coming thru February, are we going to have a shad season?

I'm digging out the 3/8 and 1/2 lead heads now, because I'm pretty sure the 1/32 isn't going to cut it.

There will be water and fish. Question will be how to get them out of the trees and abandoned shopping carts up on what normally are the banks.

In the 70's, Rain like this was normal and we caught plenty of shad. We used Shad Darts ( not jig heads ) that weren't weighted. We put 1 to 3 split shot ( 1/4 oz ) a couple feet up the line ahead of the dart and let-um drift on the tail out riffles. The river might have been blown out for most Steel Head anglers, but Striper and Shad guy's should be in like Flint. I bet this will be an epic year for shad, and actually last year like this everything was fishing well. I have been fishing the american my whole life and not sure about you but i don't even think about shad fishing until May at the earliest?

I will just move to the east coast if we don't get any here.

Just come fish for red tails with me on the coast. year round fishing and they fight way better than shad.. especially when you get 2 on and they are ripping through the surf.

I hope to get out and do that myself this year. my yak is ready to go just need the season and fish.. It was pretty cool watching the LCKA crew catching them 20 feet off the shore
