It's a firewood catfish not a shovel nose these are native to the Amazon basin and apparently got their name because people dry them out and use them for firewood in their native habitat, should have kept it and sold it since they are pricey and pretty rare in the pet trade (it is actually illegal to export these fish but they make it here anyways :-/).

ooo boy...the rare illegal firewood catfish. that's $300 easy.

so far from what i've known. only shovel, tiger shovel, redtail/tiger hybrid shovel are allowed in the state.

but man, that would make me some good money for a new set of rods and reels ;D

I dont think its a firewood or shovel catfish, its head didnt really look like either one....But I sure as heck dont know what it is!

it is a firewood shovel nose.

the head is extremely wide and flat. it looks huge once the mouth is open and i can tell you their mouth is huge for a fact. ;)

the cat is just a bit underfed, our water species is too rough for that cat, so its head looks extreme large with that small body ;D

The last time I fished Shinn Pond they're were only Striper's, Crappie,
and some Catfish, has someone been dumping Toxic Waste into the
water? I don't think I would bring anything home and eat it..........
