I am going to be duck hunting this weekend. And we are staking our claim friday night and sleeping in the boat. We always see carp swimming around we are avid flyfisherman but would take any opportunity to catch some fish while waitin for some Mallards. So is there any flies that we should use. Or bait that we dont have to cook. There are a lot of clams in the shallow water around where they hunt. Should I try to use clams???

Any help would be appreciated.

I'm very inexperienced when it comes to fishing for carp, but I can tell you freshwater clams are a natural part of a Catfish's diet. So if you get some clams you might get yourself a cat.

As for carp... I really have no clue but you can try floating bread on your fly poles maybe?

You can just use sweet corn right out of the can, or mash up balls of white bread and put that on the hook. Both of these baits can also catch cats. I do not think you will be able to do too well with flies for carp in any water that isn't crystal clear. I would just stick with bait.

There is quite a lot of info about carp on the fly on this site.http://rds.yahoo.com/_ylt=A0oGkjNnC_hIDR4B5DNXNyoA;_ylu=X3oDMTEyaGMzaDQ 5BHNlYwNzcgRwb3MDMwRjb2xvA3NrMQR2dGlkA0gyMDJfODM-/SIG=11rlrsmms/EXP=1224301799/**http%3a//www.msu.edu/~connert/carpfly.htm

Try using the soft white part of the bread, either a lump pinched around the hook so the it sinks slow or rolled into a ball so it sits on the bottom.

corn on a hair rig seems to work for me. floating bread is another one to try out.
