A partner of mine keeps telling me about his brother catching cats on a Rapala. I have no reason to doubt him, but I have never heard of catching cats on a lure of any sort until now...has anyone else out there ever caught cats on lures?? :-?

Bigger catfish feed exclusively on live bait. It's not unheard of for one to eat a minnow imatating lure.

They'll hit em, i was using a broke back black rapala, and i thought i just hit a snag, then all a sudden, something was fihgting back. and it was a nice 4 pound channel. It's a bit unheard of, i would rather stick to cutbaits.

I've caught some nice cats while flippin' worms for bass... Also when they're spawning they're just as agressive as bass...

Catching cats on jigs when polishing the rocks on the bottom seems to happen to alot of bass fisherman. Its happened to my uncle a few times. Catfish love crawdads and all the creatures that crawl over rocks on the bottom.

I've caught them on all sorts of flies... even panfish poppers!

Thanks for all of your input! I hope to someday catch a big ol' cat on a Rapala, or spinner. Any recommendations on what particular lure to use??

Caught a 17lber on a flat fish just down from discovery park. I think he was trying to get my sardine wrap, but he engulfed it. Also caught a 8lber on a gibbs minnow right across from Miller park. I've seen several caught on lures during Salmon season.

I had put on some new braided line and was just going to see how well it casted. So I put on a kastmaster. Casted it way out. I was just pulling it in because it was way out there and bam. I got it up to shore when it popped off. I was shocked to see a catfish.

Deep diver bouncing off rock in the delta.

Side note, i also catch em fairly often on a floating power egg rig when trout fishing.

Bounce a deep diver with rattles off the bottom long enough and you're going to get a cat ;)
