Anyone know if the road to Highland Lakes from Highway 4 is open? Or if the Lakes by the side of the road at Ebbetts Pass are fishing?

I haven't heard anything about Mosquito lakes but Alpine is supposed to be fishing awesome! Typically if the road is open past Alpine then Mosquito is fishable. Bill at Ebbetts Pass would definitely know.

Both Mosquito Lakes along with Alpine Lakes are being stocked next week. Check on the Alpine County Page for road opening.

Thanks for the input. I spoke to USFS about Highland Lakes. Road is open with some snow. Only three campsites not snow covered.

Thought I'd wait until Monday to get latest info from Ebbetts Pass Sporting Goods. BTW: Alpine County put 1,800 pounds into Lake Alpine last week.

I always liked the Highland Lakes area. It's beautiful. I haven't fished it in several years. The Highland lakes were full of brook trout but all the trout I caught there didn't exceed about 6". I use to fish it with a #3 fly rod and #18 and #20 or smaller dry flys, during early evening rises. Great fun but dinky brookies.
Anyone know if that has changed? Any bigger trout there?

Still full of small Brookies. Last year I'd say the average was more like 8", with bigger fish going to 12".

No so sure how good the fishing report is though. Seems to not really change that much

But they're fun and it's beautiful up there.
