We got out there at 9:30 and got setup at a dock at 9:45. We chummed some corn (legal in the delta) and no hits until 12:00 when I got a 6lb 3oz common on sweetcorn.

Then we ate lunch and came back at 1:00, then at 4:00 my float went down and it turned out to be a 10" striper with a taste for corn.

At 6:00 we moved over to another spot where I caught a 12inch splitail after 10 minutes.

Then at about 8:15 I saw a big carp eating the bread I put out so I casted up my UL rod spooled with 6lb baited with floating bread, as soon as I casted she came up and slurped it down. After 20 minutes we got her close to see her true size. She looked over 20lbs and after another 10 minutes she was in the net. She weighed in at 23lbs. You can catch delta carp on UL tackle. After that we headed back home.

HOLY SMOKES!!!!! Thats one nice hog! :o I wish I could catch a carp half that size. I fish the delta with corn and home made dough bats. All I catch with it is cat fish. All my friends [smiley=thumbsup.gif] think its funny when I get bigger fish with corn than they do with clams. Nice report and Sweet pics!

So much for people saying you can't land a big carp with UL in the delta. GJ. So who takes you fishing and do they catch as much fish as you do?

split tail is similiar to a pike minnow, just with a smaller mouth much like carp, smaller head, and the top of the tail is longer than the bottom, and its very silvery white/ baby blue, and you catch LOTS of them during january-march somewhere that it has sand flats. Catch them best with crawlers, fun on light tackle, its like fighting a trout ;)

Hi
that is a golden shiner. I have caught them around freeport bridge in october. They bite on worms and i caught 5 in couple of hours. They travel in schools and with bite on worms, they also will eat corn and bread. *I have caught golden shiner and silver shiners at the same time.
