View Full Version : Wake and Crank

Exploring some other options and decided to try my hand at making a little wake bait. I ruined one by cutting the bill slot too deep and I snapped the head off while testing the integrity of the bait since I was skeptical. Trial and error. This one, I didn't cut as deep and it's holding up so far. Currently curing, then I'll be adding a tail and some other things to it. It swam well on my first couple tests after weighting it.

Bill was cut from lexan. Have a lot of trail and error to go before being confident in knowing what influences the swim on a billed bait.

Tail will probably be from an old optimum swimbait or maybe a r2s mr. whiggly since those never swam right.

Nice work. I can't wait to see a picture of that in a fat stripers mouth

Thanks! This is the more squaw profiled one I did but it broke where I had cut the bill slot too deeply.

Hell, I'd take a skinny striper on anything right now, been a week since I've hooked one!

Final product. Will for sure be making more of these with a refined joint system. Used cotter pins which I trust but Iím not too thrilled about them being a total pain in the ass to drill and epoxy into the pieces. Iím inpatient so screw eyes from here on out on all my baits.

Swims best with one of those boot tail optimum ocean swimbait cut up mounted onto the back. The R2S mr.whiggly tail makes a subtle disturbance while the optimum thumps hard and throws lots of water at all speeds. Iíd like to throw some eyes on this as well for a final touch. Back to refining a glide bait....

Okay hereís the FINAL version. Didnít like the whiggly tail, cut up a savage gear trout and my god does that thing KICK. Almost like a whopper plopper. On the creep, it just makes a V wake, but sped up with a higher angle, thing is obnoxious.

Will upload a video soon
