I love these blanks, never been a huge fan of the bulbous butcap or the cork wrap.
I had a fleet of these rods, but 1 of them never felt right. It loaded up weird and would try and twist under load from a big sturg. I had plenty of others so it just got relegated as a back up or loaner rod.
Skip ahead 2 years, and I'm showing a friend of mine my rod spine finder and drop this blank it it and viola, wayyy off spine
(Must have been a Friday wrap lol)
So I tore down the factory wraps and handle
Alps gimble and reel seat, swapped t he guides out for a Fuji set I had laying around.https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20180222/a6bb5584d12ab84c8c45de5dabe14596.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20180222/898cd482b5a998a99a333c86f73416e8.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20180222/5da18301656502143038ddec5c3d857d.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20180222/7513e0f4566d3a68776eecff4cc1adb8.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20180222/df97449de3cb664c55d4279da685883d.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20180222/7311c5e475e25201b975d35b8a7ec9be.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20180222/76ccdab500bb26b4d248a9214112ebea.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20180222/cc815a44781c3179d4e1a00cb18cc798.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20180222/6e2321ae5ac901909ff5dbc9004e1073.jpg

Once I had the blank tore down, I chucked it up in my wrapper and sanded it smooth, applied a coat of cpxtra and rebuilt https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20180222/72e3f4201a8fc91d76fd6f36ea3a3314.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20180222/f324ccb8113de091c1e4e0891b3b314a.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20180222/95f843a6a50206b0a1b2dada5ac46192.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20180222/2d72d75223c31b7e46fd0912bd40ac2c.jpg

Nice write up, How may hours does a project like that take? It looks really nice.

Roughly 5 hours, spread over 3 days( over night glue cure on handle, 24hrs between finish coats on guides and decoratives)

1 Hour tear down
1 Hour prep
2 hours building the handle and wrapping guides
1 Hour epoxy

I'm not familiar with that blank. Who's the manufacturer?

It looks great.

Lots of bait stealer peck bites on ghost and eel. Normally they leave the eel alone. Saw some good marks in Clarksburg
Water was 49.5 when we launched and warmed up to 50.8

Same as what I been getting... Peck peck gone... Peck peck gone... I never had any other bites other than sturgeon on eel in the sac before this year... Fishing the Toe drain years back the cats would peck it... Sturgeon is the most boring...Yet most rewarding fishing... I swear LoL...
