Arrived at the 89 Bridge on the West Carson River with Jetspray, Wolfden and Untalan1 at 0530. Dark with clear skies and a cold 20 degrees or so. The river was high cold and heard. There were only 2 other cars there when we arrived and e had our choice of spots. We picked various spots down stream from the dam and commenced to fish. We fished until a little after 0900 and managed only 4 small fish to the shore. Other anglers did little better. Not a good opener sort of like last year. We headed down canyon where we drowned our sorrows in pancakes. On Friday Todd checked out Red and Caples and found ice with some clear spots. One more week of warm weather should do the trick. Efren, Todd it was nice seeing you again. Thanks for the ride Dave.

Damn If I knew you guys were there I would stopped said hi. We passed you guys about 545 then. We did good working lots of spots on both rivers looked like the bridges were pretty packed this morning. And by time we got to woodford fire house it was 10.08 so I figured we missed that but I was hungry and ready. The cousins and I limited with a few extra thrown back I got the 3 biggest this trip and lost another Toad. Good to see you got some nice fish, myself I just like to be there. I was tired by the end of the pancake breakfast and it looks like CC took a ride to Caples to see how it was.......Jetspray

Looks like a great opener. Pictures are beautiful
Except the ones with the spray paint stuff that really pisses me off. Sacrilege. I am so pissed. I hope it gets cleaned soon.

I am sure they will enjoy some of your efforts, the Fire Station Pancake Breakfast was a winner, nice just to sit down with everyone and chat about old times and new times.......Jetspray

I hope it gets cleaned soon.I agree someone did the tagging thing a couple of years ago on my side south then someone else did the north side where Wolfden with fishing. A few years ago there was damage done like that to the east shore at Pyramid Lake and they shut down that side of the lake to shore fishing (it was a tribal member that did it). To me tagging is ignorance and I am not talking about murals or cultural things, just crapping on the landscape or throwing trash down is stupid.......Jetspray

Fishing was pretty good Saturday afternoon below the 89 bridge. I caught and released 10, a few 8" and most going 14" to 16". It was much slower today although, the largest fish I hooked or saw landed were today. I broke one off in the 4 to 5 pound range. I came back to the same hole an hour later and someone landed one close to 7 pounds. Fewer fish but larger today in spite of the snow.

Lucky they did not end up somewhere in the valley over the waterfall by the resort area......Jetspray

Are you guys tossing spinners or drifting bait/power bait stuff?

Last year I had more success tossing panther martins on that creek. A couple on worms too but not as many as with spinners

I did not take live bait but used a bunch of stuff I had along. Being there with friends and a good time at the Fire Station was worth the trip to me. It is only 20 minutes away from my doorstep.......Jetspray

Any pink and white combination was working. I was using a small piece of a pink bass worm with a small piece of white power bait. Other big fish were caught on power mouse combinations.

I know it has only been a little more than a week but has the flow on the Carson come down at all? Thinking about a trip this weekend or maybe 2 weeks from now. Thinking Carson first thing in the morning then maybe red or blue lake after lunch. Are there still cutts in red lake? Used to go there for bows, brooks, browns, and cutts all in one day from the bank

Last week the weather cooled and the levels in the Carson went down however things have warmed up the last few days and flows are now up to what they were on the opener. There are still Cutts in Red but no Brooks. Should be right at ice out. I don't believe that the road up to Blue Lakes is open yet. Maybe by Memorial Day weekend.
