Iím going with my family on a house boating trip to lake Shasta, and plan on bringing my boat up to fish.

My goal is to wake up early every morning and go trolling for trout.

Does anyone have an idea of how deep they are? What lures to use? And an area?

45-55' deep. Many trout have moved out of the arms into main lake. Mouth of arms are a good bet.. Dry creek mouth, the backbones, toupee island, slaughterhouse island, Bass cove, Sac mouth and in further (waters gulch) .. etc.. Try a little deeper for salmon. Stay tight to the bank for browns out over 75' water.

Speed up if slow trolling doesn't work out. Optimizers, speedy shiners, yo-zuri.. gold is good. Put a strip of gold reflective tape on spoons. Gold on black is killer! Black/silver, blue/silver. Can't go wrong with wiggle hoochies either.

I went trolling Monday and Tuesday mornings. It took me a while to figure out how to do everything because it was the first time I did everything by myself.

I fished 45 feet down with a Silver Optimizer and Speedy Shiner, and tolled back and forth at the mouth of Big Back Bone.

On Monday I caught a rainbow and a salmon. I through them back because they had some weird looking clear spots/bumps on them?

On Tuesday I took my sone with me and we caught two Rainbows at the same depth but at the mouth of Little Back Bone.. They were worse looking than the ones we caught on Monday so i released them...

I was frustrated with not knowing what was on trout so a switched to Bass the rest of the trip...

They are off-putting for sure. Although harmless once you cook or smoke them, still doesn't make them any more appealing. I have never seen them on salmon or brown trout. I suspect they come from the hatchery.. I could be wrong though.
