View Full Version : Quiet deer season

Pretty quiet on here for deer season. I went up around 6500' for the archery opener in D 3-5 and it was hot and a little smoky. We saw a couple of bucks but had no shot opportunities. We did see 3-4 bears and most of the other hunters I have talked to saw more bears than we did. I will go back at least one more time during archery season and the weather should be more favorable.

I did walk right past a big rattlesnake at 6000'. He was about 4' long with 12 buttons. I was walking in some brush and dry leaves and when I stopped to look around there was still some odd noises. I knew immediately what it was I just needed to locate it. It was about 36" behind me and off to the side a little. I assume at some point I was probably in striking range for him. I did get some decent photos (that is how I counted the buttons) and he is still crawling around out there somewhere.

Anyone else get out yet?

Good to here you got out. I've got tags for White Pine county on private land. It's a 3 day hunt and I'm hoping for a little snow to push the deer down out of the high ground. Hoping for the last week of October.

I'm hoping for a little rain soon. I haven't been able get my rifles checked out because of the fire danger. It's been a bad fire season and just being seen out there could get you charged if a fire starts anywhere near you. I'm just not willing to risk it.

I went out last Tuesday and saw 7 deer

3 does and a fawn that were freaked out and 3 legal bucks together
I got a shot at the bigger forked horn but shot low and missed I estimated 40 yards
Going to try Thursday D3 down the 12 road 2nd left

First time out this year to my own little private island on the river in my tree ground stand. . 2 does 2 babies 1 spike is all I seen this evening. Plenty of time left I dont like the taste of 2 tag stew. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20180830/57df9c85d5ef4a1d4a535bea4d247c54.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20180830/20f5cd20f46b1846177873365a8e9cbb.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20180830/bef13d3c1c1816fdee2cc38de38cc473.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20180830/ede18e72616220cbce04924bb6296a8e.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20180830/a6473df0147d50aa3189341be4eb2cb1.jpg

Im praying for some rain in the desert to wet things down a little. We're still in an extremely high fire danger condition here. I've switched around my scopes so I have to check the 30-06, 300 WSM, 270 WSM and 257 WM. All four of those rifles go with me on a hunt and I make my decision based on what I find and where. In reality, the 300 will cover everything but it never hurts to have your backups dialed in and ready.

I hope the weather will be favorable for the big game!

FisherGirl is out by Elko chasin Elk, I'll be out by Ruth chasing Muley's last week of October. I didnt get tags so I bought a guided trip on a ranch that I've hunted since I was 10. Its still in the original family and they still run cattle on it but nobody hunts for free anymore.

Really nice buck, I've not seen anything with bones on its head. D6 is looking grim this year, all my go to spots seem devoid. Found a big fresh buck turd last night, will be back.
