I have never tried for catfish at the forbay. Does anyone have any tips. I do have a boat and will be fishing from it. Thanks in advance for any info.

Try check point 12 with lots of weight. Big cats there, as well as stripers.
You can fish there off the bank. Small fee to get in, I believe.

Here is some information about Check 12 that Bret Moua first posted.

Check 12 is at the forebay. You want to go on 152 past Los Banos and the I-5 overpass. Keep going on 152 until you pass the Basalt Launch turn off. Go past the bridge and just before you start climbing the hill, there will be a turn off to the right to go to the forebay. Pay the fee and follow the road. There will be a left turn right before you reach the parking stalls for the boats and cars. Make the left on that road and keep following it until it comes to an end. Check 12 is anywhere back there where the buoy line is up onto the little dam like, where water comes out. I know that for boats, you have to be off the lake by sunset. I think you can actually stay out there until 10 if you don't have a boat. That's when the gate closes. I'm not 100% sure so you'll have to check. Good luck and report back!

There is boat launching on that side of the Forebay - just follow the signs.
