View Full Version : How is half moon bay and ocean fishing from the berkeley bay?

I have mostly fished the flats or shelves within the SF/Berkeley bay for multi-species and like to use a driftball with two herrings on a halibut/striper rig. Is it unwise to use the same method for HMB/Ocean multi-species fishing? I'm not worried so much about the hooks or the types of fish, but about snags and losing tackle. Can you drift the rock/mud/sand areas of HMB with a driftball?

I see some folks jigging when out there, especially on the party boats. I'm guessing anywhere from 2 - 5oz laser minnows would do well like that around the rocks for rockfish? I would love to get a leopard shark or a striper, haven't had any in years now. Which rigs and areas out of HMB are best for that?

Thanks and I hope it won't be combat boat launching tomorrow.

Anyone know what kind of rockfish this is?

We switched from driftballs to torpedos and it worked well. Got over 10 fish today, incredible day. My first cabazon!
