Jetspray, JB Fishing and I arrived on the East Shore of Topaz Lake a little after 0530 with 45 minutes left until the opener. The sky was clear, winds light and a very cold 14 degrees. Usually we open Topaz on he North Shore but the Water District prohibited access to the shore by vehicles. We fish from 0617 until noon for 8 fish to the shore. The fish were 12 to 15 inch bows except for a beautiful 4# Nevada bowcutt for Jeff. The fish came on a verity of offerings. It was fairly crowded but all and all a good day. Seems that prohibition on North Shore access was generally ignored. Thanks for the ride and Donetts.

Great fishing day, I was fortunate to have the fellas with me to help me set up my gear. I have not fished since the second week of October at the fest....10 weeks of dry time. I also think this was Jeff's first opener and he did good. I think the fish are hunting along the shore too, most of the moss that I had on my hook was black. This means to me that if you fish between 15 feet to 30 feet trolling close to the area of the incoming fish (8 - 15 feet) you should be able to catch something looking for leeches, snails, worms, crawdads, or anything else they can see. Gulp did the trick though, I did carry worms but did not use them.:bananacheese::bananacheese::bananacheese::ba nanacheese::bananacheese::clap::anonymous:...Jets pray

Good to see you guys out there catching fish. A lot closer than Pyramid for you guys too.

Nice cuttbow! Is it possible that there are cuttbows in Pyramid?
I caught a fish on Dec. 12 that looked different than a cutt?
Real spotty and a slight pink stripe down the side and rosy cheeks. ??

Good to see you getting out Dave! :cold1:

There were Cuttbow in Pyramid until the mid 70s. In 73 I caught 9# fish at Popcorn. A very powerful fish. That jumped a lot. NDOW has put quite a few Bowcutts in the Truckee over time. Perhaps one or two have made it down the river. With all the browns in the Lower Truckee it's a wonder that a brown or two haven't shown up as well.

Great pics, awesome thread. Makes me wish I lived closer to the north than being stuck in the city all the time....someday!

Hopefully I can get up there this summer for a camping trip!

Hopefully I can get up there this summer for a camping trip! When you do decide to come make sure you reserve a campsite prior to coming. The Douglas County park is strictly reserve only for both the regular campsites as well as the RV hookup. No more first come first serve stuff. I guess they got tired of people parking a trailer or RV for the summer......Jetspray

I've never heard of a bowcutt but I don't fish Nevada so not sure. I've caught plenty of cuttbows

NDOW calls them Bowcutts. Here's my opinion. Cuttbows are Female Cutt X Male Rainbow. Bowcutts are Female Bow X Male Cutthroat.

I always love the fellas argueing about BS of where, how, and when the latest truck trout plopped into the lake, river or stream. How big they are or how many tags are on them. Hey fellas news flash, how about just cathing fish and enjoying the day. It is like watching a sports team (your choice) and going ballistic about stats. Take it easy and forget the mess about what you have in your explosive head........Jetspray
