Im starting to get the ice fishing itch and saw a product called jawjacker on youtube that looks interesting. I read the current regulations and cant find any reference to mechanical hook setting devices. I have always thought that tip ups were prohibited in California. Can anyone point me to a link that gives a definite answer to this??? Thanks!

Here is the hook setter on ebay. https://www.ebay.com/itm/Ice-Fishing-Automatic-Hook-Setter-3-for-9-99-for-use-in-ice-fishing-shelter/273641286525?hash=item3fb64aab7d:g:fW8AAOSwCGVX7BE K:rk:10:pf:0

I did a video once goofing around with one and just called it a Jaw Jacker goofing around. Maybe there is one by that name but don't know.

I looked all over the regs including the new 2019 and couldn't find anything on mechanical hook setting. They did mention a dip net couldn't be moved by any mechanical means. I thought I read something years ago about mechanical hook setting being allowed if only powered by the rod itself or something to that effect.

Cal.ndn, I call it "Wintering Well"!

Back to topic....Jawjacker website says the product is legal in all states except Minnesota. Wonder if that will keep me out of the wardens ticket book! :rain3pr:Think Ill call fish and game just to be sure.
