Lou Carsner of Vacaville caught a 45-pound blue catfish on Friday evening at Lake Pardee. He was fishing in the marina area using chicken liver as bait. The catch is perhaps the biggest freshwater fish ever taken on rod and reel in California. The International Game Fish Association (IGFA) reports the largest blue catfish ever taken by rod and reel weighed 97 pounds.

I couldn't get in on that link Kevin...did it say for sure that it was a blue? The Pardee website just says 45lb catfish. I've fished that area coutless times. Never got anything close to that before but I did see one caught that had to be at least 20lbs!

I cant imagine trying to land that thing!

in the mid 80's a 120lb flathead cat was found belly up floating by the dam of el capitan reservore in southern calif. cant imagine what that would have been like to have something like that on.

Wow!! I was astonished to see this thread and being true. I look forward to getting back up their and seeing if I can get the sister or brother of that monster! Or his momma for that fact haha!!

But seriousally what a remarkble catch from that lake. Glad to see that the big lake holds that kinda fish. Its time for catfishing!
