View Full Version : Fishin in the City Kids Derby

09-04-2005, 11:50 AM
I don't have any details, but it looks like the annual Fishing in the City Kids Derby is next Saturday 9/10 at Gibson Ranch. We've been taking the kids the past few years and have had good times. they put on a quality event for the kids. I'll post more if I find out.

Here is the report from last year and some pics of the fun

is it in sac?

Master Baiter,
Yes, Gibson Ranch is in the north area of Sac. Take Watt Ave. north to Elverta. Right(west)on Elverta and it will be 1/2 mile down on the right side. Took my 10 year old son last year and he had a ball. Lots of nice pan size Channel cats and a few big ones. They put a net up across a cove and plant inside it. Its fishing in a barrel.

Hows Gibson Ranch in general, is it a big pond?

Yup big green pond with some nice docks, for the derby though most if not all of the docks won't be available in the heavy stocked area. I have seen some nice cats come out of there. 10# plus

Only one of the kids fished this year(don't you hate it when they grow up) and we didn't win a trophy. But Willie did catch a fish and a good time was had by all.

Another great job by Fishing in the City and the Granite Bay Lions Club

Nightcrawlers and shrimp have done the best there over the years. Cut baits are ok too. Here is a link, scroll down and click on Gibson Ranch
