where are the cats coming in on the delta right now.Does anyone know any good areas that are producing large cats? The small ones are everywhere, but where are the nice ones?

Hey Mo, I'd try 8 mile road or whiskey slough. Use night crawlers threaded on large hooks, size 0-2.

The last time I fished Whiskey Slough I caught a boat load of small cats and one good sized one. I put the big one on my metal stringer on the bottom clip. When it was time to go, I pulled up the stringer and the big cat was gone, clip and all. So if any of you catch a cat with it's bottom lip pierced, save the clip for me. ;D DF30

How big are the cats caught out of whiskey slough typically

1 pounders are the rule for all the times i fished there.Once in a while i get a 2 but Ive never got a bigger one there.

Is night fishing legal in the delta and the river (Sac)? I checked the regs and it seems like its ok, but just figured I'd check.

You can fish all night and all day if you want. JIM D.

Where is Whiskey Slough? And when you say 8 mile Rd. do you mean King Island?

06-13-2005, 09:45 PM
Whiskey slough is off hwy 4.From stockton take 4 west to bacon Island road just after a little bar/resturant called Taboo.Go right on Bacon island and keep right at first y in road then stay to the left.Pass to quick stop signs and follow road about 3/4 mile accross rr tracks till you see boat harbor.Take paved road to the left at boat harbor and thats whiskey slough.I dont remember king Island but herman and helens is off eight mile road.

06-20-2005, 02:29 PM
Day or night time?

06-20-2005, 02:48 PM
its was during the day

06-20-2005, 03:00 PM
Ah cool. If cats go there during the day, it makes me wonder what they're like at night.

06-20-2005, 03:25 PM
ya we where going to stay but ran across some shady characters wanting a ride.

06-21-2005, 07:56 PM
Ya know, it surprises me that not many people post here. I would think there being such a huge delta that more people would go out there and try their luck fishing than any of the lakes. I mean, its free!

I caught a 5 pound cat at "sugar cut", near the "Golden anchor"! You have to walk in, but I have been nailing cats, crappie and a few nice bass too, for a couple of weeks now! All on red worms and live minnows. I am going to try "mosdale" today.

06-23-2005, 07:46 AM
Let us know if the shad is running at mossdale.

06-24-2005, 07:59 PM
Lil hooker and I fished at Bacon Island with no luck last night. We then moved down to Grimes Road and fished it from about 8 am till 12 pm. Only fish landed was my 20 in striper. Caught it on a fellet shad.

So ya guys didn't hit Whiskey after all huh. Cool, too bad the action wasn't popping. It was the same when I was fishing White Slough the night before last. All I caught was a baby striper and a couple bug bites.

06-24-2005, 08:42 PM
I have been doing real good down here in Fresno. They are running in the 8 lb category with a few 10-12 in there. Caught a 16 lber last year. So you didn't miss nothing. lol! Some great BS though. It's not called cathing. LOL!!!!

06-28-2005, 09:49 AM
Hey Robb it was a pleasure meeting you sorry we couldn't get into more fish. We did end up catching 2 more stripers both 20 inches right after you left in that last spot we pulled over in. My buddy and I both got one I just ended up holding my rod the whole time. Was tired of getting bites and them not sticking so I was trying to rip the lips off anything that touched my pole. Ended up with a striper and so did my buddy.

Hey john!!!!! What a blast I had Bro! Just the pure joy of getting out and fishing makes it a great trip. We will have to do it again. Planning on a gathering down south at Irvine lake. Renting a pontoon boat. BOC brothers down there are organizing it.

06-30-2005, 05:51 PM
So now that its getting into the 100's has the action picked up anyware? Looking for a good place in the delta to bank it.

07-08-2005, 12:34 PM
Has anyone fished Mossdale resently? Is the pump running??? I heard the bite is hot there.

07-22-2005, 12:08 AM
