I've never seen one jump, but I'm sure if one were chasing a baitfish near the surface it could get some air :)

They more or less roll. Especially channels, they will chase live bait and you will see them break the surface but they dont have that obnoxious tail rattling big jump that a carp does. They more or less are quieter and do more of a roll.....

Hey Smeja,
You probably seen carp. Carp tend to jump.

Sutherland Resevior down by san diego has some cats that do break the surface. If you see a boil around a rocky shoreline or point, it could be a cat. I remember we use to be able to spot big ten pounders huddled in rock holes. You can see there tail fluttering and just be amazed by how close they are to you. First time seeing it, my brother tried to noodle it! funny sight, it freaked him out swimming through his legs.

Cats do jump, especially big ones.

A few years back there was a monster that jumped out of the water in Clifton Court Forebay in Byron. About six people saw it and the concensus was that it was a cat.

It did go straight in the air then do sort of a belly flop.

I've seen them jump many times down on miner slough, where I fish a lot (Well, not lately..) Usually in the 2-3 lb range.

And.....if it does jump and make a splash but no one sees it, does that catfish even exist?

catfish do jump, and the jump does exist, and in a parallel universe catfish dont jump and the cat doesnt exist

The reason it is called the frog jump is if they called it the frog hop people would think it was a dance. JIM D.

Wow guys!... :)

I also saw a catfish jump, just recently. Straight up into the air, his tail cleared the surface, then came straight back down butt first. Energetic little sucker!
