I am a campus supervisor at Patterson High School in Patterson Ca. I am in the process of starting an afterschool fishing club and have some questions. The program is something for the students to do afterschool to keep them off the streets. We would meet in a classroom twice a week to discuss fishing and learn fishing styles and go fishing about twice a month. I want to teach them about respect for nature and each other since I have a good mix of social groups. I have alot of kids that have never been fishing before so it should be exciting. The program is being funded by a grant from the state but as we all know the budget is getting smaller everyday. I would like to know if you guys have any opinions for a fishing pole/reel combo. We will most likely be baitfishing for stripers and catfish so just something that can handle some decent fish. The main problem is I would need to buy about 30 poles plus tackle and licenses for all the kids. My budget is about $30.00 a set plus tackle. Any advice?

Have to assume the kids would be pretty hard on the gear, especially if they're just learning... tough choice.* Hope you've got some parents or something to help them learn to cast.* I could imagine that bird's nests might get really tiring.

I assume you're looking for spinning combos.* I'd probably either hit Walmart or Cabela's.* A quick search gave me these:

Walmart, $29 Shakespeare Alpha Bigwater Spinning Combo (http://www.walmart.com/ip/Shakespeare-Alpha-Bigwater-Spinning-Combo/10298901)

Cabelas, $25 Cabela's Whuppin' StickŪ Spin Combo (http://www.cabelas.com/cabelas/en/templates/product/standard-item.jsp?_DARGS=/cabelas/en/common/catalog/item-link.jsp_A&_DAV=MainCatcat20166-cat20287&id=0042965121329a&navCount=7&podId=004296 5&parentId=cat20287&masterpathid=&navAction=push&c atalogCode=9IS&rid=&parentType=index&indexId=cat60 1233&hasJS=true)

Cabelas, $35 Cabela's King KatŪ Spinning Combos (http://www.cabelas.com/cabelas/en/templates/product/standard-item.jsp?_DARGS=/cabelas/en/common/catalog/item-link.jsp_A&_DAV=MainCatcat20166-cat20287&id=0067675124181a&navCount=9&podId=006767 5&parentId=cat20287&masterpathid=&navAction=push&c atalogCode=QZ&rid=&parentType=index&indexId=cat601 233&hasJS=true)

Cabela's guarantees everything Cabela's-branded for life.* Might be more of a headache for you than you're looking for to take advantage of, but I've gotten excellent service sending back products that didn't work out.

You could also just ask for donations. I know there are plenty of people on here with waaay too many rods/reels, and they might have some they'd rather see put to good use. Awesome program idea, and good luck!
