Okay I am reading the topics on shad fishing and think I should give it a try. I have nver done it so maybe a few pointers would get me started in the right direction. I will target American River, fishing out of a jet boat.

I got the tackle figured out except for shad dart weights (what weight should I use, and colors to start with). Is any weight attcahed to the main line i.e. split shot.

How do I find the schools of shad. Or are there areas and drifts to focus on such as Salmon fishing.

Once a school is found do I anchor or stay to the outside of the school on a electric trolling motor casting into the school.

Thanks for the help.

I use 1/16 &1/32 oz. lead heads with a 1" curly tail grub. I also use a #7 split shot about 12"-18" above your jig. You won't go wrong with pink and chartreuse grubs.

Read last years big shad thread. Just about all the info you need is there.
