Is it possible to buy live, fresh crawdads anywhere around Sac?

I don't know of any but you might want to try some local asian fish/markets that are in the area. They have alot of neat stuff you can't buy anywhere else.

Thanks for the suggestion. I've actually at some stores and they don't sell crawdads. They have other stuff such as frogs, catfish, carp, etc. but no crawdads. Anyone else?

Oh wow, those are a drive for me. I live in the Pocket area. Oh well, if those are my only choices, I guess that is where I will have to go. Do you happen to know what their prices are? Thanks. :)

Anyone else have suggestions? Preferably closer to my area. Just kidding. ;D

You can buy them in bulk on the internet . The only catch is that you have to pick them up at the airport 8)

Whoa. Thanks! How many crawdads do you think makes up a pound? I'll be sure to PM you if I decide to trap them myself.

EDIT: Nevermind, the site says around 12 per pound on the bottom. Thanks again!

My rule of thumb for meals is 1 pound of meat for ~6 lbs of live crawdads.

or are you looking for bait? :)

Yeah, I dropped by there after school this afternoon. Too bad it was around 6 when I got there and they were closed. Do you happen to know how much they charge per pound? The only thing I dislike about Cliff's Marina is leaving the parking lot. Man, it's kind of dangerous there.

Ok I gess I have to be the one. WHAT are you doing with all those crawdads ??? Here in Nevada, they are only good for BIG German Browns in the Truckee river or in a salad. What good are they in the Sac area? Cats?

I've been buying them buy the garbage bags for $15.
You can go to AA supermarket on Stockton blvd and find people selling them from the back of their pickup trucks.

Probably about 30-40 pounds worth of live crawdads.

Wouldn't you like to know? :P I'm going to use them more for Black Bass.

Yeah, I went by and checked there. They don't have any as of yesterday morning.

Thanks for the suggestion. How big of a garbage bag? Are they as fresh as can be? Are they pretty much straight out of the river or wherever they got them? And, when you say garbage bags, what size garbage bags are we talking about? Thanks! :)

That doesn't sound too bad for 15 bucks.

If there getting them in the rice fields of drainage ditches, I would be a bit hesitant in eating them with all the pesticide runoff.
Bob's bait in Isleton has a bunch at $4.00 a pound, I was up there this morning and the tank is full.

If they're from the rice fields, that's alright with me. They just have to be fresh and alive. I won't be eating them.

crawdads make killer striped bass bait if you like bait fishing.

I don't

I'll stick to Bomber Long A's, jerk baits and topwater for stripers~

But just saw the question and figured I'd answer it~

Steelhead will also eat them but again, I would rather throw flies or Lil Cleos than worms, roe, or crayfish~

Later~

Ok, so are they good to eat, or should they only be used for bait.

Well, crawdads in general are good to eat. I'm not sure about the crawdads caught from places like the ricefields.
