did pretty well this weekend. Found a new way to cook them that tastes awesome. Deep fry in a cajun bread.

Hey troutfisherman, I've been trying to get some mudbugs for the last couple of years. Could you maybe tell us where, and what bait you used? Maybe kick down your recipe too. Thanks, DF30 P.S. Great pics. Reminds me of my daughter twenty years ago.

caught them in burney at lake britton. *The damn lake is full of em. *I saw about 10 other traps in the water at the same time as mine. *You have to have a boat though to find anywhere good.

The bait i used was fresh fish.

For the recipe i deep fried them in a cajun mix i bought at safeway. *Dipped them in egg first then rolled them in the cajun mix. *You can find it in the seafood section. *Says cajun on the box and looks just like tempura box. *Tastes great.

Hope this helps

I'm curious, when you fish for them do you just drop your cages somewhere and pick them up the next day? Arn't a afraid someone's going to steal your cages? Sorry for the questions, I've just never fished for mudbugs before.

I got some from cabelas catalog. tried making my own then boght some. also If you want many there is no limit on how many you can put out. try looking and bidding on the harly rod store on E-bay. they sell a 6 pack of them. they call them minow traps but it is the same thing I got. all 6 traps seem to go for around $20 at the end of the deal. you can also use cans of cat food or tuna with holes in it for bait. (im not talking from experience just what I have learned here) when I put mine out (a home made on for a few hours) I didnt get any. I just put them out for a few hours while fishing. I need to try it while camping. ;)

cute pic. I cant belive she picked them up :o

fresh fish works best as bait, cat food cans work ok, and so does dry dog food.

i make my traps out of soldered wire from lowes. You can buy a roll of it for like 9 dollars. I start off making the cylinder shape. Then i take some plastic black netting and make an inverted cone for each side. I use zip ties to hold it all together. I enjoy making my own traps thats why i do it rather than buy them. I can make about 5 traps for 15 bucks.

I have about 25 feet of rope attached to each trap with a bouy on the end. When im camping i take the boat out before dark and drop the traps. The bouys help me locate them in the morning. I have only had one trap stolen before and that was in chico california. Never had them stolen at my favorite lakes.
