I am trying to help my fishing partner who just bought a new Lowrance X 96 fishfinder.* This is for a 12' fishing boat without any other electronics.* I was thinking that a small battery for a lawn tractor would be plenty of power for this application with the benfit of small size/weight and cost.* * Also I am currently running the LMS-339cdf with GPS, could I use my head unit with the power cables/transducer that come with the X 96?

Thanks for any idea and relpys.

I have a kit sold by Hobie. It has a battery pack that holds 8 AA batteries. And a foam pad that glues down to the hull and mounts the transducer.

The kayak guys use a pretty small battery or battery pack. The one Old sea ranger is talking about should give you more than a full day fishing on most fishfinders. My brother and MontanaN8V use a small battery like most alarm systems use as a backup. They're pretty small and only a few pounds.

Thanks for the input,* I had figured the alarm batterys would give a longer output such as a marine/RV battery.* I think that is the way to go.* I just wonder if the two head units above can be interchanged.

I just wonder if the two head units above can be interchanged.

You may be able to accomplish this using a few adapter cables, but I don't really think it is possible. Try this link http://www.lei-extras.com/store/default.asp .

The power and the transducer connectors are different on each unit. You may need a secondary power cable and transducer $$$.
