where they were using live eel to catch striper on the east coast. Would this work around here? Is there any where to get live eel?

An easy way to find out is to e-mail Marty Gingras @ mgingras@dfg.ca.gov

Sure we do. What do you think the Eel River was named after?
There are both lamprey eels in California Rivers, and also an eel with the mouth in the front, not the sucker that the lamprey has. I've seen eels in the Klamath, Trinity, Eel, and American Rivers.

I don't know much about eels....Maybe lamprey eels aren't "true eels"?
But then what are the other eel type things in the Eel River, that don't have a sucker mouth?

I think Bakkie was refering to this type of eel they fish for Striper's in the surf back east with.

The bottom picture looks about right, I can't tell how big the top one is but it looks huge. On the show they were knocking the snot out of huge stripers, and the boats around them weren't catching anything. I figured if you can find eel out here and it was legal it might be worth a shot.

For the delta it would kill..there was a website called like hoagie or hogie lures...they made these pre rigged eel lures that had a life like action and one of the guys demonstrated it on youtube and did walk the dog and it looked real...think they must of crash and burned because the sites no longer up or i just over looked it. But you could check out the storm eel that they have out...

The first eel is an American eel and the second is a Sand eel

How heavy is the 14" version DD?

It's all most natural when in water...I don't know know the weight, but I throw it with a swim bait rod of heavy flipen stick just like the Super Magnums Zera's

Saw Someone using a 10inch black worm with a 1 ounce sliding singer with a Texas rig hook/ He said it looked like a eel and he was catching lots of Stripers throwing against rip rap close to the Redding area.
