i know i would never spend that much on a shimano rod ever.. shimano makes good rods and has a good warranty and all but 240-320 is kind of up there for a shimano rod.

i think shimano america bought it in 1997.. i think he is into atc, at or atx somehow. don't know for sure. i know those advanced tubular composite blanks look pretty sweet. i also think he was part of lami and talon very early before he was the man behind the name of his epic rods.. at that shimano price. i would look at a us made talon R131 for 2 1/2 bills or even a loomis SUR1324S.. many of my friends fish that loomis rod and it is pretty sweet for right around 3 bills.

conventional rod and reels kind of suck for working topwater from the surf. especially if you plan on doing it all day. my first topwater rod was a bastson su1266 casting rod with a avet sx5.1.. i used it for 1/2 a season before i got s penn 706z and built a su1264 spinning rod. it is night and day difference over a casting rod. i got good with my avet on the casting rod but still a spinning rod and reel with topwater is a no brainer. every once in a while i use my 10 foot 10-20 casting rod with my modded abu uc6501c. i like it but my go to spinning rod is much better in the surf..

The man knows. gf_s's penn / su1264 combo is sweet!

I would also recommend going to a loomis if you're gonna drop that much money for a rod. I did check out the tiralejos when I was in the market for a new surf rod and wasn't all impressed with the weight of the rod. A guy that I've fished with had one. It felt like a solid rod but it seemed too heavy to be throwing for an extended amount of time. I ended up grabbing a loomis for a discounted price.

i think the Lami, Ron Arra XSRA1321-2 and XSRA1322-2 are on sale for right under 3 bills also.
