Pastor Steve and I got out for the day. We launched at Belden Landing and fished down the Slough towards Suisun Bay. Water 45.7*, dirty, debris after the outgoing tide got going; air 40-50*, sky clear to overcast, wind 0-12 mph. 8:45 in, 2:45 out. 6 hours, 10 miles. We started fishing the end of the incoming tide, with Ghost & Grass shrimp, eel & roe. 3-4 other boats in the area. At the slack, beginning of the outgoing tide the NE wind comes up preventing the boat from turning with the outgoing tide (flowing SW). I put one of my rods on the folded forward Bimini top/window so it will face Suisun Slough ( outgoing tide direction). A short while later Steve sees my pole bounce down, I pick up, put in gear, line straightens out, I feel light pressure, set hook, fish on! I was able to land a 57 (approximately 55#, 17 year old) white sturgeon (31' of water, Ghost Shrimp/eel, slack to very beginning of the outgoing tide, 3 oz of weight). The wind continued to build to 12 mph so I put put the drift sock out and slowly the boat straightened out. I changed to 4 oz weight. When the anchor started slipping we headed in. One bite, one sturgeon. On the way home we find and stop at Suisun Bait & Stuff (707-429-2078, behind McDonalds across from Grizzly Island Road). They open at 5:30 a.m., have live, fresh, frozen bait, tackle & gear. A very convenient place for bait. Thanks for the company, seeing that bite Steve.
