View Full Version : Sherman Island Report 4/8/2006

04-10-2006, 08:23 AM
Saturday April 8th, 2006 - Launched at Sherman Island at 11:00 am poised to hit the tide change at 1:00 pm. *Anchored by channel marker 9 in 40' of water. *The water temperature was way up from last week, measuring at 57 degrees. *The incoming tide was not coming in, just a slow outgoing current. *Around 1:30 pm the tide starts to move out faster and I get my first pump on roe/pile worm/lamprey combo. *Fish makes several long runs and 20 minutes later I finally see it's huge head come out of the water. *Way too big for my huge net, and since I was fishing alone I couldn't operate the snare. *Hand lined the fish and grabbed it with my Boga Grip black bass style! *Got a few quick photo's, marked it's length on the side of the boat and released it. *By far the biggest fish I've ever landed. *It was hard to measure by myself, but I'd say that it was between 70-75" long.

Next cast, boom, another pump. *Turned out to be a long skinny 47" sturgeon which was also released. *One other missed pump and I moved into shallow water to try for stripers. *No luck except for a few shakers. *Off the water at 5:30 pm. *Saw lots of jumping sturgeon today.

Thanks for the report Captain Jack! Good job on that biggin' by yourself!
Great pics! Sounds like a good day on the water for a 6 hr trip. I can't wait for this crazy weather to straighten out. Still way too much water coming down. I'm hoping the flows will slow soon so the water will be in better shape for the Cinco de Mayo fest. Looking forward to seeing you again down there.
Excellant post! Keep em' coming!
