View Full Version : Great Duck Day In The Bay

On Saturday we went out of Montezuma slough diver hunting. Launched at Beldon Landing and went to a place we named Blue Bill Point. The fog was pea soup thick in the morning , thank the Lord for gps. We had on and off action from morning until noon when all 3 of us limited.
It was a real mixed bag - 4 mallards, 5 greenwings, 1 spoonie and the rest mostly goldeneye and a couple bluebills. My lab Sprig made 21 bay retrieves and those of you who hunt the bay with the currents and tides know how tough they can be for dogs. Some retrieves were 200+ yards by the time he got to the last bird down. And then he had to swim against the tide all the way back. Had a couple of cripples that kept diving on him but he stuck with it and retrieved them all. One of the cripples he dove underwater and came up with it. He is only 2 years old but is a great retriever. All and all a great day. I will be back out there next Saturday.
Waterdog :)
