Well, I have decided to got out and try my luck at sturgeon fishing this winter. I wanted to know if any of you had any recommendations regarding party boats out of the Martinez/Pittsburgh area. I pretty much have done all of my local fishing out of Emeryville, but it sounds like most of the fishing occurs around Martinez and the delta. Any recommendations would be appreciated.

The Happy Hooker, James Smith, is good, but if you want a smaller boat try Barry Canavaro on The Fish Hookers. I've been out with him once, and he is pretty good. I've heard good things about Rich Tipton on the Lucky Strike too. Good luck, Df30

The Canevaros run two boats out of Pittsburgh. *I've been out with them quite a few times, and every time there have been at least two keeper sturgeon caught. *They are both using 6 pack boats, so expect to pay a little more than on a larger boat. *You can find their info on the Fishsniffer under Fishing Reports, California Delta on the upper left of this page. Theere will be a link that says Fish Hookers- Islton.

Big PB, I like the Morningstar. Out of Crockett.
6 pac, I like Barry C and his wife ,the other is Mark D. of Finaddict sportfishing. Barry and Mark are out of Pittsburg. I have always had fish on the boat with the two six pacs, and there is always a few on the bigger.
Sounds like there are some other good bets out there, these are just the folks that I have had direct experience with. Expect to pay around 70.00 for Morningstar and it's usuall about 125.00-150.00 on an open load with a six pac. Private charter will run you about 500.00. I will be going out during the winter on some of these boats. I'll post when I go if people want to get on an open load.
I have learned alot from going out with these guys. Although a big PB, Morningstar's cpt. Mike is very friendly and helpful. Barry is a Delta icon. I have a blast when I fish with Mark, and he is the one I go to for leopard shark fishing also.
