Thank You Sturgeon Stomper for putting this together.
Great to meet all of you. I had a great time talking with everyone there.I would really encourage any board members to attend at least one of these get togethers as it gives you a chance to put faces to board names. And talk about a wealth of good fishing info! Were else can you go hang out for hours and talk fishing almost nonstop without any one getting bored of the conversation?
916S, I forgot it was your birthday....HAPPY BIRTHDAY!
Fishkiller, thanks for helping me out with my impossible-looking line situation.
Farrier Frank, hoped you hooked a striper after I left. Glad my trophy inspired you ;) ;D

It was great seeing all that I already knew and meeting those I didn't. It amazes me every sniffer I cross paths with is a good, quality individual. This gathering was no different. Props to Stomper for coming up with the idea, Sun for promotion and time keeping, and everyone else that chipped in. Great meeting FF, kromebrite, fishrman4life, rtanderson, 916 (even though we've talked on the phone a dozen times), Ryermpt and Double_D! I'm sure I'm forgetting someone... ::) Special props to Dimpala for breaking out the TASTY smoked salmon. That stuff was GOOD!

Lets get together again soon. It's certainly that dino time of year. ;D

The Sturgeon-Fiesta piñata broke Friday night. I knew it would. And I missed the party. But I didn't miss everything. ;)

I backed my truck next to ITUKAWAL'S Alaskan camper around 9, Saturday morning. And before I could get out of the truck Sturgeon Stomper was sticking his hand through the window saying hi, and right on his heels were 916 and Fishermanforlife. It was like every other Sniffer event I've been to: folks wanting to shake your hand, help you get set up, and talk fishing. The only problem I saw was the bank was already claimed with poles propped against metal stakes and I thought I was going to have to move downstream, away from the party. But the-still-grinning Fishermanforlife pointed between two poles and said, "... throw it between 'em." ::) And as I was sliding down the bank to find a good spot to cast I was thinking: 'he doesn't realize he just asked this trout-troller to sling this 10 oz mortar out there and hope the friends I just made are gonna still like me if I miss' :D And then another voice came over my right shoulder and I looked up to see Kromebrite smiling and pointing to some object in the distance I couldn't see; indicating I should throw it in that direction. So I reeled back and threw that mass of lead skyward and watched in awe as it sailed out and made a huge splash, not that far from the bank. :P But it worked. I only crossed one line - Kromebrite's, ;D and he didn't seem to care so I climbed back up the bank, grabbed one of Stompers Heinekens and joined the party. 8)

Throughout the day Sniffers' who had read about the Sturgeon-Fest trickled in and hung around. Even John, the guy who owns the Freeport Bait and Tackle shop, stopped by and threw a line in the water and then threw some of the best ribs I've eaten in a long time on the grill. And then Fishkiller pulled out his knife and started slicing sardines in half, showing some of us how to make a sushi of pile worms and sardines for stripers. It was truly a Sniffer event.

But the best part of the day was when I watched 916 spend 20 minutes putting together a wire leader, with ghost-shrimp tightly bound on the hooks, and fling it to the middle of the river only to realize his knot didn't work. ;D That really made my day and made me feel right at home. 8)

I'll be keeping my eye out for anything happening on the Sturgeon Board in the future, hoping to meet some of the Sniffers' I missed this time. 8)

What can I say,, AGAIN this bash was a ball, it was good to meet everyone.. DoubleD the food was great, Krom way to go on that monster fish, Bassfooler I have your knife, Krzy sorry I missed you :-/ ITUKAWAL you can hang buddy a real trooper to say the least, Randy best rock fight Iv'e seen in a while, and thanks to all who showed up this is what makes these things work, Killer, Furrier Frank, DD, IT, you guys came from a long way and it showes how close this group really is,, and of corse SS thanks for hanging in I know how much you wanted to take off and catch some fish, you came through on this one.

I got there Fri at around 7:00 and there was about 15 guys hanging on the bank, at this point a few wobbley pops had been consumed and everyone was very merry, DD started up the Oil and made a whole bunch of fried goodies for everyone and it was very good, then we had cake with 916 for his birthday, he was happy :D at about 10:00 one by one folks started to go beddy bye and before it was all done I was the last man standing, I watched a pole all night and in the morn the bait still looked like I had just put it on the hook,, At 5:00am SS started to come to life so I got the breakfast going and made Bacon, Sausage,Egg and spuds for those that wanted it, it wasen't long before the camp came to life again and we were back at it, I put my boat in for a few hours and tried the Salmon thing for a while with no luck, Big T and IT went out for a while and had one Stureon hit but No Fish.. I ended up leaving At about 2:00pm and SS said a whole bunch more guys showed up.. went back over Sunday morn to see if SS needed any help packing things up but all was in good order, so hung out for a while and went home..I love these gatherings and meeting new folks is way cool, found out Inovate lives on my way to the river looks like were gona have to put in some boat time together. Again thanks for the good time ALL and can't wait to do it again,, CAN WE GO NOW??

Hey GC, I guess this is new this year. No more overnight camping, no campfires ( they took out all of the fire rings ). It's not even known as Merritts Landing any more. You can launch there and keep your vehicle & trailer overnight while on the water. It's just another thing for them to keep an eye on and another thing to put on their list of things to go away. It's a shame how these sites are managed or mis-managed as it were. A hand full of us when we arrived there picked up 2 full garbage bags full of crap just laying around. We occupied about 30% of the facilities. It was cleaner when we left then when we got there. Thanks everyone for pitchin' in. It's not likely that anyone will ever notice except for the sniffers who were bank bashin' and the scavengers who swooped in afterwards. Special thanks to Josh, Tom and Gary.

I saw you throw all that lead to the middle of the river, too, Eddy. You had no problem doing that. But the only action we saw that day was happening closer to shore (albeit shakers). The real question for a caster is can you stick it in the zone you think the fish are hiding. 8)

Looking at the tides, Dec 17 looks to be a good weekend for launching at Sherman. Low tide is mid-day and shouldn’t interfere with launching or loading.
GC

GC, you and Frank want to take a shot at that weekend. I think Kromies got first crack at my open seat. I know that SS can get his troops stirred up to go. We might have to make it official real soon.

I mentioned that last weekend and spoke to Farrier Frank over a beer yesterday. I'll start to cast that date in stone later today. Maybe I'll kick it off today with a little help from the sturgeon crew.

Boys and girls (there was a couple) You folks ROCK! My kid can't stop talking about the fun he had at the river. Three baths later he still had some sturgeon dust behind his ears. Sorry I have not chimed in sooner. AOL dumped me for not paying my bill. I'm on my Mom's putter today. I'll get back on line soon. I'm jonesin ::) Sucks to be poor.

P.S. thanks Sturgeon Stomper it was awsome!
