Last sturgeon caught and the only one to date was on pileworms (beginner's luck). Heard they nibble on soft shell crawdads and blood worms as well. When fishing with roe, is it okay to use the one without the sack or the egg sack must still be in place?

Roe , grass shrimp and a pile worm/night crawler combo in the winter when the sloughs are running real muddy after a strong storm . I fish Montezuma slough and the fleet mostly , can't catch much above Sacramento !

The piles work best when you put them in your mouth to warm em up first.. Sturgies like a warm meal :o

Thats why I never catch em cause I just can't force myself to warm up those worms first :-/

sunracer ,

Thats why you put piles on one hook and a big ole night crawler on the other . Piles die real fast but have the right taste while the night crawlers got the wiggle going on for quite awhile . Used to use your method but got tired of getting bit .
Used to play with my kids that way but not with pile worms , grass shrimp instead . Would pop one in my mouth and act like I'm chewing it up and swallow , kids would go crazy . Took them awhile to figure out that shrimp was just sitting safely on my tongue and never realy got ate , finally got caught spitting one out when I thought they were not watching .
