View Full Version : Saltwater use with outboard

I have a 16' Tracker Deep V. I have been missing salt fishing a bit. Not that I am going to rush out anytime soon but I may want to fish the bay. Will this ruin my Outboard or is flushing it going to be ok?

Just flush the engine and wash the boat. They are all designed for saltwater. I used to keep boats at docks and moorings in saltwater and flush the engines only once per year. They don't hold up as long as if they are used exclusively in freshwater, but occasional use in saltwater will have not significant effect on anything.

I think your boat and motor will be just fine with a good flushing afterwards. I would be more concerned about the trailer.

Thats a good point! I think if I stuff a hose in by the coupler it should flush the inside of the trailer frame. I have good bearing protectors and I'll check my lights to see if there are still sealed.

Unless your trailer is galvanized, I'd just dunk it in a lake on the way home. JasonB dunks his in Donner on the way home from Pyramid. Sometimes he even fishes there. ;D

When washing your boat trailer BE Sure to wash the BRAKES and DRUMS .
