View Full Version : Caples in the snow. 12-4

Drove by Caples early this morning and saw some water by the spillway that was not ice yet. Came back in the afternoon to give it a shot. About a month ago I saw a guy catch 2 monsters with a fly pole so I decided to give it a try. Never tried fly fishing before. After spending some serious dollars on a set up I couldn't wait to try it. It was and still is a huge learning curve but I kinda got the hang of it a little. Probably a little easier if I wasn't slipping on snow and ice in my tennis shoes. There was a fellow fisherman there that helped me out on fly fishing which was great. I managed to catch 5 fish in about an hour and a half. They were 3 bows and 2 brooks. Nothing of size (12"-13") this time but I can hardly wait till spring. Saw a guy ice fishing on Red lake and a guy ice scating (crazy) near the dam on Caples. I was just waiting for him to fall thru. Here are a few pictures of the spillway area ice. Will likely be solid ice after this next storm.
