We all often have expectations as to how we will do on the water. Having never fished Topaz Lake in the fall my expectations were lots of NDOW stockers in close with any of the nicer trout hiding in the deeper water toward the middle of the lake. This was not the case.

Arrived at Jetspray's Ranchos location at 0630. On Topaz Lake by 0720. We fished the north shore between the Topaz Lodge Marina and the rock by the state park launch. The water temperature at the surface was between 62 and 67 degrees with no wind. From our launch until about 1000 we were the only boats on the lake. There were a couple of tubers at the County Park. We toplined Kastmasters and set out at 4 colors of leadcore with Kastmasters and needlefish. 22 fish in the boat with as many more LDR and SDR. There were a few dinks but the majority of fish were 14 to 17 inch fish with solid bodies and a bad attitude. There was cope wounds on most of the larger fish but they didn't seem to mind. Both the topline and the leadcore were equally effective. The weather grew warm as the day progressed and some lice appeared around 1300. This was our sign to go. This was by far my best outing at Topaz. Consistent action all day long with multiple doubles and even a triple. Topaz closes in a week but I suspect there may be another trip up there before it's over for the year. Thanks for the ride Dave. Good call in wanting to take one more look at Topaz.

Efren. This bodes well for opening day at Topaz in January. There are a ton of fish in* the lake. They seem healthy except for the copes. I suspect another gathering on Jan 1. :)

Beautiful pics and story as always Captain. Is Topaz any good from shore or is a boat needed?

Duke363 the north shore and the shore around the county park launch facility were occupied with fishermen giving it a try. Did not get a chance to watch them however, kinda busy at the time.........Jetspray

Fish can be gotten from shore but not in the numbers that can be had from a boat. The biggist fish I've caught there have been from the shore. My wife caught a 3 pound Bow from the shore in 2008 that had a $250 tag on it.
