Fished 3 days on the Carson rivers hoping to find some bigger trout and get a jump on the crowds.

08/26/09- Arrived at the Highway 89 bridge at 2:20. A reading of the water told me that there may have been a recient plant. Fished on the downstream side of the bridge. I watched a gentleman from Freemont catching some nice ones. Usieng a white jig I managed to catch a nice 21 inch bow. Didn't fish there very long wanting to check other locations. When I returned to my truck the other fisherman was trying to get into his car. Seems he locked his keys in the trunk. I tried but couldn't get the door open. He had a cell phone but no service in the area. I took him down to Sorensen's where he was able to call the tow guy at Woodfords. I seem to be giving that guy a lot of business as of late. ::) Up 88 to check out the spots. Checked Hwy 88 Bridge, Hope Vally CG, Blue Lakes Bridge, Sorensen's Bridge, White Bridge, Crystal Springs Bridge and Woodfords Bridge. Nothing. :( Next up to the E. Fork where I Fished below the Carson River Resort, The Campground Hole and the Highway 4 Bridge. Nothing. Headed back to Minden at 6:00 with only one fish.

08/27/09- Got a call at a little 3:00 from my neighbor Gareth who wanted to take a trip up to the E. Carson for some evening fishing after work. I was certainly up for that. We first fished above the Campground. Gareth caught one small guy with nothing for me. Next we moved down to the Campground Hole. There was a good sized crowd fishing here. The only indication that there had been a Donaldson plant was the occasional dead fish floating by. We caught nothing here. Wonder where the live trout are? We retired to the Cutthroat Bar in Markleeville for an after action debriefing. Thanks for the beer mate.

08/28/09- Went up early on 88. Arrived at the 89 bridge at 6:45 to find several anglers there. Fished with jigs and Gulp with no takers. The fish that were there two days ago seem to be gone. The morning was cool with smoke from the Yosemite fire filling the air. Next stop Hope Valley. Found no fish in the water. Decided to take a look at Red. The lake was calm with the schools of minows having fled the scene. Fishes with Jigs and Kastmasters with only one strike. Returned to Minden at 9:00 wondering where all the fish are. Perhaps some next week.

We went today also thinking there might have been a plant. Went right to the 88/89 bridge and it was already too crowded at 0730. So we went to the big rock on the east side and on my first cast I caught the most beautiful rainbow I have ever caught in that part of the river. Roughly 2.5 lbs and a big big fighter. I'm sick I took no photos, but was most anxious to get it safely back to the water. After that it was only one small planter for my husband and another small planter for him at the other bridge to the west. All on night crawlers.
Smoke was there but not as noticible as the smoke on the west side when we stopped in Pioneer. It was a fun day.

I hope to get back up there sometime before the labor day weekend...hopefully I'll have some luck up there. Last time I was there all the luck I had was washed away by a group of idiots walking in and out of the river. Pretty sure they were poaching too...damn SOB's are lucky that there's no phone service in that area. They really should pick up the patrols on hwy88, this isn't the first time I've run into this problem...anyone else agree?

Thanks for the report CC. I just moved backed down to Carson and have been fishing the East Fork. I went 2 of last 3 days for nothing. Hooked two but they were 6 inchers and spit my hook. Also hooked a good one that broke me off. Just can't seem to find the fish though. Quite a few little guys inspecting flies but even they are too timid.
