View Full Version : Eagle Lake August 7th to the 17th

I just got back from a wonderful ten-day Eagle Lake trip with my family and friends. By the time I arrived Tc-Trout had already found out where the fish were hanging out. To say the least the fishing was off the hook. The fish this year were smaller the biggest just over three pounds. I believe I may have reeled in two fish the entire trip. Friends and family reeled in the rest. My mom and dad made the trip this year.

The ramp was not an issue for me. I used my trolling motor in and out from the dock. Cheryl and Steve from Reno have a 22-foot NR they used there kicker motor by raising it up, it wasnít a problem for them either. There is only one lane to come in and out of Gallatin Marina. They have extend the boat dock almost out to the jetty. I pulled my boat out every day to charge my 24-volt system for my trolling motor.

I fished with grubs the entire time. Brown grubs, watermelon, and the very best were the purple grubs. The purple grubs out fished brown two to one. The best depth early right on top, down to 30-feet and some caught all the way down to 42-feet as the sun came up. My speed was around 1.9 to 2.0 mph. The fish are stuffing themselves with Chui-chub minnows. Some fish had 20 to 30 minnows in their mouths when we brought them on board.

All I have to say it was another fantastic time at my favorite lake. Lets prey for some heavy snow and rains.

Mark it was a great trip this year as always. Good to see old friends and meet new ones. Saw several sniffers up there and swapped secerts* :D :D
Larry and family aka Fishermatts dad, Tie one on, Fishing buddy and also the Webbs from Marysville.
Great to see everyone.
Next time DHWG* I will try harder to locate the bigger fish but the one's we caught were some great fish. Even with the almighty Tui Chubs. I have never caught that many Chubs and the sizes of them 3 to 5#ers.
Even the flies :) :) worked for me (brown early morning)
Here is a pic of limits the boys and my wife caught

Very nice report, and some nice looking fish. You got my motor running as I'm going on the 31st.
Glad they did something with the ramp!!
DHWG I'm not familiar with the purple grubs you spoke of, where did you get them???

Seps makes a blue and bloody minnow.

Here's Sep's latest Eagle report (8-16):

Trolling:* We are launching from the Spalding Launch Ramp around 5:00 A.M. and dropping our lines in at around 5:20 A.M.* The fish are very active up until around 7:30* A.M. with two thirds of our daily hookups trolling coming during this period.* Most days we are limited and heading back to the docks by 8:30.
The best trolling areas are in 50-52 feet of water, off Miners Bay on the east side and between Shrimp Island and Wildcat Point on the west side of the lake.* Early, before the sun hits the water, I am trolling my baits from 8-30 feet deep.* After this I move the baits deeper from 18 to 30feet deep.* Exception:* If I see fish working the minnow schools on top any time during the day, I will fish at least one bait shallow, between 4-8 feet deep.* Best baits are Sepís Grubs in brown, black, or watermelon.* Spoons with red or orange in their color patterns are also good.* When all else fails, troll a night crawler.

Yep that was the ticket when I was up there two days ago. Unfortunately I was bobber fishing with 7 poles in the water and could only listen to "Bobber Down" talk about the fish they had in the box while trolling. Will be there again soon for some trolling......Jetspray
