this might help...When I use kastmasters I tie direct, but I have noticed if you use them a lot they tend to twist your line, I use a spinning reel, maybe its different with a baitcaster. I tie direct to a rooster tail too, but my brother always uses a snap for both, I just think he does not like to tie em' over and over if he is changing up a lot. Just what I do, not sayin its right or wrong.

They are made to be tied, direct. No snap swivels.

I never use swivels for anything...they mess up the actiuon on lures and when baitfishing they are one more thing that can get snagged

You can solve this problem by simply using a leader rather than tying directly to your line. Tie a swivel to your line, attach the leader to the swivel, then tie the lure directly to the leader. Problem solved.

In addition, the leader should be lighter than the line so that break offs will be near the lure.

I always use a snap swivel when I fish with lures because I change lures many times until I find the one the fish want. Saves me a lot of time. I guess each person has their own way.

I usually use swivels for the reason of changing up easly and line twist. I know that a swivel "changes" the action, but if you tie a kastmaster directly to the line on one rod and one on a swivel on another and put them in the water, I don't think you would see much of a diffeerence. I know that I have personally caught many fish while using swivels. use if you like em, don't if you don't...

a happy compromise that i picked up from doc, is to use just a snap clip. that is a snap swivel without the swivel. i troll a lot, and change lures frequently. (besides.....i am not very good at trying knots) ;D

while trolling i use a ball bearing swivel...bank = no swivel.

like said before, if you change lures often then i would suggest a small snap (no swivel) . They work great and ez 2 use. When im trolling with anything but a rapala/rebel i use a ball bearing swivel. regular swivels always seem to get stuck and twist my line. goodluck

i've always heard no swivels w/ kastmasters so i use 6# main line to a swivel, then 4# leader (at least 3') tied directly to kastmaster. when trolling isn't working, i'll bring one line in so i'm only trolling 1 rod. then with the other rod, i "fan" cast kastmasters in all directions. i've caught a lot this way to avoid skunks. if trolling kastmasters, just add a 1/16 oz. keel sinker with built in swivel. it's extremely light so no drag, but prevents line twist 99%. rapalas, use a duolock (sp?) snap. cheers!

As with Billfisher and Crank Bait I tie on a swivel and then 5' of leader and then a Duolock Snap. No line twist and easy change of lures. ;)

I agree with MM.

It doesn't seem to mater when casting and retrieving a kastmaster. However I do better with a swivel and leader when trolling (two different actions?)

I do exactly what MM said, swivwl, 5' of line and a Duo Snap.

I change lures way to often to keep tying and the Duo Snaps do not really affect the action of the lure
