We're taking the boat to Silver Lake for the 1 st time later this week. How deep is the lake? Is the "center" of the lake free from hidden nav hazards?

Its an alpine lake so yes hazards are there. They might have a lake map at Plasse's Resort with general info but the key is to go slow and keep an eye on your depth finder(alarm on for depth change). Dont have much time on the water at Silver but at Caples they have bouys to warn you of mid lake obstickles but I have still run over some big granite boulders 50 yrds off shore with no warning, luckly was able to flip the motor up and scrape just the bottom of the rental boat hull. the water up there is pretty clear so with a scout on point while trolling you should be ok.

Lake is very high right now so rocks are not as much of an issue. Stay to the left when leaving the launch area to go out of the lake.
There is a warning sign off to the right and I have seen boats get stuck on the bottom there.

The lake is high so not many Prop busters to worry about right now. Max depth is only around 60' in the area where theres a creek channel running thru it. There is one main shelf around the lake that shallow side ranges from 10'-22' then it drops off to around 40' with a relatively flat bottom. If you have a decent depth finder its pretty easy to figure out. The lake does have a weed bed on bottom so if you are hugging the bottom check lures often because they may catch the weed beds and get fouled up. ;)

It is 65" in the area between the lodge and the new boat launch under construction. Like others have said, keep your eye on you fish finder and have someone keep an eye out in front of the boat until you know the lake. One of the worst areas is in front of the lodge boat launch. The rocks are pretty well marked in that area but not all of them. Take it slow you do fine. Let us know how the fishing goes.
