Mrs. Compassion and I decided to take a tour of the area and hit some places we have fished this year and some the we have not and take a few pictures. We made stops at West. Carson River Hyw 89 bridge, Red Lake, Hope Valley, Markleeville, East. Carson River, Heenan Lake, Monitor Pass, Little Walker River, West. Walker River and Topaz Lake.
First stop was the W. Carson at the Hwy 89 bridge. It was a beautiful morning with the river running clear and down to a manageable level. There were more artists there then fishermen or fish. The next stop was Red. The lake was cold and windy. :( and full of Brookies. :) Fished from the dam for 45 minutes and caught 12 brookies all on a 1/4 oz gold Kastmaster. Next stop the W. Carson at Hope Valley CG. Just a couple days ago there were 3 large LCT in the honey hole but today there were gone. :'( The river is in beautiful shape here but with little or no fish. Next down to Markleeville where we stopped at The Deli for lunch then headed up 89 to check out the E. Carson River. Stopped just above Hangmans bridge and found the river high but clearing. It should be fish able in the larger pools but we didn't try. Next stop Heenan Lake and Monitor Pass where we stopped to take a few pictures. No fishing at Heenan to September. One of my favorite all time lakes. Can't wait. His US 395 and headed south with our next stop the Little Walker River. The Little Walker was high and clear and my 1/4 oz gold and black Panther Martin brought no response. Back north on 395 to the W. Walker River Bridge. Fished around 100 yards below the bridge and was rewarded with 4 bows including a 14 inch holdover on the PM. Here the West Walker is high and fairly clear and is fish able From the confluence of the Little Walker to down below Chris Flat CG. In the canyon the river is still out of shape. Stopped to take a look at Topaz Lake. It looks to be as full as I have ever seen it. The was a wonderful day in wonderful country with a wonderful woman.
