Hello everyone! Just wanted to let my fellow Californians know that free fishing day in NV is this Saturday. Anyone plan on making the trip across the stateline? I am thinking about going for this once a year experience....but WHERE TO GO? I think I might try out Lahontan cuz I really would like to hook into some walleye, but my mind can be changed. I just would like a few tips on where to go to have a good time. Any help is appreciated, especially from NV residents. Thanks.

P.S. July 4th is free fishing day in CA so I'm sure there will be ppl like me crossing their statelines also :)

Drive a bit and have the opportunity to catch something different. There are Tiger Trout in the E. Walker River in the Elbow area.

That tiger trout looks great. Maybe I'll have a pic of one to show everyone also...hopefully it lives up to its name and fights like a tiger...or maybe not otherwise I might be dead...

I just found out about the free fishing and I'm already in tahoe, so I'm definitely going somewhere there to catch a fish ive never caught before. Im just not sure if it's only for Nevada residents or for anybody.
CC That trout looks cool !!!!!

I've caught 18" tiger trout in Topaz and all they are is a "rat mack". *They are a Brook trout, Brown trout hybrid so they are half Char. They grow slow, and don't fight that well. *I wish NDOW would grow Browns and Bowcutts instead of Tigers. *To me they are just a gimmick and not very desirable. ;)

To my knowledge free fishing day is free fishing day...not limited to that state's residents only. It does not say anything about being limited to state residents only so I'm sure that we're OK. I would like to catch one so that I can see the color patterns of this fish...it looks cool.

The colors of the Tigers that TF and I caught are somewhat washed most likely from being in their respective lakes for awhile. I have seen some where the background color on the sides ans a cream color with chocolate colored markings. They can be striking fish. As I recall it didn't taste all that well. :P

Everyone with a fishing pole can fish for free as long as they follow all the other rules. The Sparks marina has stocked a bunch of fish and they are having a Kid's Fishing Derby on Saturday. If you have young kids that want to fish this may be close to a sure thing. ;)

That is true but I don't know if I would rely on a California Ranger to verify Nevada rules! ::) ;D

Come to Nevada. They just stocked the heck out of most Western Nevada locations.
