I picked up a limit yesterday that included two salmon with black gums. The meat is very orange and I'm going to cook them up today.

The Dam Cove at Poo Beach was the hot spot.

To the two fat old men who trolled over my line, get a clue fools.

Picked up my buddy @ 6:30 And headed for the lake... Launched by 7:00 *Headed straight for the dam and saw there was a hand full of boats already fishing and saw FishMaster and guests. First line in the water About 7:30 ans within 10 mins first fish on! We went through 3 small ones..... when my rigger starts bouncing. *I pop it off the release and fish on. I was battleing my fish when My buddy's rod pops * *I hear the drag peeling so I end up with a SDR on mine and wait for the pig to show his face. The big was 6+ and the smaller one had a full tail. Total count 6 landed and 1 SDR many missed strikes.*All caught OTW around 20ft.[img=http://img14.imageshack.us/img14/2963/1020315.th.jpg] (http://img14.imageshack.us/my.php?image=1020315.jpg)

Striper Steve, Good seeing you out there. We picked up 8 today trolling Rapalas. Fish went 14-19 inches Noticed alot of foam on the shore this morning. I guess the wind blew pretty hard last night. All our fish were caught between 15-25 feet OTW. This was the first time I got to take my dad with 2 of his grandsons fishing. Even though the bite wasn't as wide open as it has been, we enjoyed our time on the water. Hope to get them all back out soon.

so striper steve, are the DR really worth it? I mean is it just night and day? Would you say you definitely need them to catch some decent fish? Sounds like you woudln't have caught any today without them considering they were at 20 ft?

IMHO downriggers are a must if you like to catch fish consistently. I forgot my portable fish finder and was pulling plugs without knowing exactly how deep I had them running. I got no hits trolling.
Ryan, invest in some decent downriggers and you will not be sorry, you can use them in any lake.

Down Riggers = Trout fishing all summer long and Kokenee fishing as well.

Ryan, They are awesome. I have never caught trout this time of year and Highly recommend it. The only thing i recommend is if you purchase used riggers. Check the cables for rust. I found out the hard way in that there is now a $30 rigger set up near the damn. The cable had a small rust spot on it and snapped. :'( The riggers had not been used in over 10 years. Bummer but I am going out to get more stuff! Downriggers rule!!!! ;D --Steve

Salmon and trout tasted awesome!!!
Marinated in soy, sesame oil, ginger, orange zest, lemon juice, chives, green onion tops
Grilled rare and served over mashed potatoes with grilled corn dunked in butter.

There is a reason I wear the Husky size waders.

Good job on the trout! But

All Del Valle Salmon must be verified with a pic. untill then its all hearsay. Without a pic all us regulars will continue to beleive you have miss indentified your fish!! Lots of *trout in Del Valle have red meat... Red meat alone is not enough to be classified as a salmon! *:) Sorry but thats just how it is........... 8-)
