Arrived at the gate at 4:45AM. *First ones there. *Gate closed, no attendant. *Took advantage of the opportunity to install the VHF and the FF in the boat. *Attendant arrives right on time and we launch and are in the water by 5:15. *We slowly motor through the No Wake zone and then proceed at full throttle to Hat Island arriving shortly before 6 (its not a fast boat but it trolls well). *I attached an F9 Firetiger 10' OTW and my brother attaches an F9 Orange/Gold 20' OTW. *Both rods have 6 pound line with 4 pound leaders. *We start trolling towards the dam. *Halfway to the dam I pick up a 17 rainbow. *It is now 6:15 and I deem that to be a good sign and a good start. *We cross in front of the dam near the buoys and then make a U-turn to cross in front of the dam again. *Suddenly my brothers rod pops off the downrigger. *Fish On. *I pop the motor into neutral, remove my rod from the rod holder and give a tug to remove my line from the downrigger with the intention of getting my line out of the way. *As I start reeling I feel some resistence on the line. *I tell my brother "I think I am caught in your line". *I keep reeling in line and suddenly up from the depths comes this monster fish and right behind it another good size fish. *Double hook ups!!!!! *The monster does a slow roll about a foot under the surface of the water and about 15 feet from the boat. *I keep reeling in line as the fish is moving towards the boat as he apparantly had been doing from the beginning. *As the fish gets a few feet from the boat I stop reeling and grab the net. *The fish does another slow roll and as he does I reach the net under him head first and lift him into the boat. *I dump him out of the net and help my brother net his fish. *I go back to my fish to remove my lure from his mouth and notice he has a treble hook in his mouth that is not attached to a lure. *Then I notice that my F9 Firetiger is missing the middle treble. *The split ring connecting the treble to the lure was no where to be found. *

My fish came in at 10 lbs and my brothers fish came in at 4 lbs 2 oz. *We continued fishing for the rest of the day picking up another 9 fish, releasing 2 to fight another day and keeping 9 total.

Many thanks go out to kokemachine83 specifically and to all the others who contribute on the Trout Board for all the information on how to fish Camanche. *I would not have shattered my previous PB of 3.5 lbs without it.

Congratulations on your PB cnfwv102. *I was surprised how few people were fishing. *Lots of lake lice but few trollers. *Better for us. *I had the VHF on 69 the whole day and didn't hear another soul.

Those are some great fish on that water. Love doubble hook-ups while trolling, nothing like it. As far as VHF on 69 I usually call out two or three times during trolling on any lake. I carry a handheld and keep it on if I get a response I turn on the bigger main station and talk. It also helps to have visible stars on your boat, some guys/gals just come by and give it a yell if they don't have a radio......Jetspray

Ok, How crazy does this sound... I had another hog on that Sat. When i went to put back my Firetiger F-9 i had noticed that the front Ring and Hook were missing. Congrats on catching my fish... At least now i know how big it was. Congrats to you on your Personal Best..

Thanks Robbie. Your posts gave me the information I needed to make it happen. The fish also had a size 6 snelled hook in its gut. Hooked deep with the end of the looped line in its mouth. This obviously wasn't his first time to get hooked just the first time to feel the net. ;D

I also wanted to thank you Robbie for the PM's on Camanche and everyone else who posts on here. It has been a wealth of information and it has really paid off. My brother (wishtofish) and I have been to Camanche 3 times and each trip was great. We generally get our limits and fair share of C&R. The first trip, my brother caught a 3.5 pounder, the second, my 5.5 pounder and this last trip, Jim's 10 pounder (above) and my 4.2 pounder. It was pretty crazy having a double hook-up with a 4 and 10 pounder at the same time. To make matters worse, our lines got crossed and we couldn't tell who's fish was the bigger of the two until we got the lines uncrossed. Luckily, Jim's hog was swimming towards the boat and not offering too much resistance. On the other hand, I felt he got cheated out of one hell of a fight. Thanks again everyone. I am sure we will have many more posts and stories about Camanche, but I think our next trip is going to be New Malones. :)

LimitOut: This is what makes these boards so great. I do enjoying helping others. I just hope one day i need it, it's there for me. Guess after being hooked three times, that hog had enough. That was just crazy that someone posted with the ring and hook still in its mouth. Now if only we all could just get our Hot Steels back, it would make for a wonderful trip. Congrats to the both of you and if there is anything else i could do, just PM me!!!

Oh by the way, if your chasing kokes at Melones. Be careful. Once you eat those kokes, you won't want to eat those trout. Good luck on your next adventure. If i can help with any koke stuff you know what to do!!! Again Congrats on a couple of Camanche HOGS!!!
