Arrived at Caples at 5:45. Fished from the dam using Countdown Raps and Kastmasters. Caught 3 bows to 12 inches on 1/4 oz gold Kastmaster. Cgagex3 arrived around 6:30 with daughter and her friend. The darn started getting crowded at 7:30 so we all left to do a little creek fishing. We walked the creek below Red and fished the beaver dam. Cory had a couple of nibbles but we didn't get anything. Cory and crew left to return to Caples. I stopped by Hope valley to check out the Blue Lake Road. The road is still closed 7 miles above the Sno Park. The weather was beautiful. Nice fishing with you Cory and nice seeing your Daughter again.

The usual problem with opening Blue Lakes Road is not snow but rock slides.

Will post pics later but CC nice seeing you up there. After the young'un took over 400 pics today it will take a while to sift thru. She does have that gene from her mom.
Today turned out to be less about fishing and moe about hiking and exploring.
Woods Lake is still closed unless you feel likea very long hike in the snow. Snow block is only about 300 yards past the gate. Did that once, won't do it again.
The day use lot at Woods Creek is open and clear. We went down I fished for a little while. Landed three Macs all were long and lean. 14 to 16" torpedos. Large heads and skinny bodies, don't think the will stay that way long. They are back chasing real food in the churning waters.
Caples is up about 12 feet at least from 2 weeks ago.
Stopped at Silver, she is also way up from 2 weeks ago. The rocks that Hunkfisher and I were fishing from aross the cove at the dam are under water now. Tale of the tape says 22 1/2 feet at the dam now.

will check in again later.

When Woods Creek dumps into Caples I would say it becomes Caples. So techinically I was fishing in the churning waters of Caples Lake.
All three were very nice looking fish, just on the skinny side.

Man, you are wearing that 88 loop out. It is nice to see that little creek from Red flowing well, and also nice to see Caples filling up.

With the storms this weekend and the snow melt going on Caples should get some relief and fill quickly. Looks like you and Corey + 2 must have had some fun this morning. Great pic's including that awesome stream shot.....Jetspray

Sorry Cory, I think I got my cricks messed up,I was thinking the outlet at Red. With the rise of Caples and the hungry macks that lurk below I would be there waitng for a meal myself if I could hold my breath long enough. [smiley=lolk.gif] My bad !

First up Red glass in the morning.

CC had the shots at Red Creek, big problem last trip never saw a bug, this time we got pounded by the skeeters, none at the lake but they were everywhere at the creek.

Then when we made our way back to Red still glass.

Then after finding the closed road to Woods Lake we went and hiked to the creek access as it dumps into Caples.

Here is the first of the three Macs, then my photographer daughter vanished with her friend climbing around on the rocks.

Great to see the water level at Caples, the big rock islandin front of the spillway is about 3 feet from being under water.

And at Silver...

Richard,
Nice seeing you, didn't get to do as much fishing today but it was a day for the girls, and boy am I paying for it. They walked my tail off today but they got to sleep the trip up and back. *>:(

And kudos to my daughter Shelby for the photo work with her friend Daidra. *Mom is away so the duty falls to the next person in line (and I know that isn't me).

Mac,
Well I know there wouldn't be any Macs in Woods Creek either so you were still right.

Fat Fish,
If you are out there somewhere, there are fish in the water but there are a lot of floating sticks too. Be ready to pull in a little stick every 5 casts or so. The lot and the trail are both clear of snow.

Hey Cory, that was me by the Woods Creek inlet, thought you looked familiar 8-) The fishing wasn't "off the hook" yesterday but still nice. I got 3 planter Bows to hand and lost a 14-16 inch Brookie on the fly that leaped 4 frick'n feet outta the water!!!! The guy I met out there was also from Carson and he got a Brown right next to me before you guys showed up. I will probably fish Silver next time and bring the boat. Thanks for posting pics so I don't have to ;D ;D ;D Good luck, Eric :)

Very Very nice you two CC you have spent a whhhooolllleeee Lotta time up in that neighborhood, I think those fish probably all recognize your gold Kastmaster by now, CG nice little adventure I am going to have to try Woods Creek inlet before I go back up, and the creek sweet spot still has the fish there I've seen em, but I think later in the day is a better bet I fished it around the same time as you with poor results saw the fish laying on the big rock trying to sun themselves. anyway nice trip for the two of you. Rich my GPA was thoroughly impressed with your fish catching ability on Thursday said he has got to be the luckiest fisherman Ive ever fished with, guess catching that cutt in the car and the brookie while you were talking to him did it! ;D

Well Red now that you know for sure what my ugly mug looks like give a holler next time.

Brad,
Be sure to bring the skeeter spray, when you and I went not a single bite. Just 1 1/2 weeks later and they were thick at that same pool. Dummy me left the spray in the truck, after all there were none at Capels or Red Lake in the morning. To many warm puddles back in the jungle near the creek, they were everywhere.
