View Full Version : Manzanita Lake - 05/24/09

Well, my cousin was graduating Chico State University on Sunday so I thought I'd take the family for a quick one night camping trip to Manzanita Lake in Lassen National Forest on Sunday night. *Got to the lake and set up camp, then walked around Manzanita Lake with the little fam (about 1 & 1/2 miles around) and caught just one 14" brown. *Got about 10 other hits but the single barbless made it tough to keep em to stick. *Lake appeared to be very shallow in most spots but all in all, beautiful lake and glad I made the trip. *Also saw several rainbows cruising the shallows in what appeared to be spawning mode. * I left these alone and just watched them, it was quite entertaining. *What appeared to be the female looked like she was "practicing" laying eggs and one or two males would be shaking violently, almost vibrating their bodies in the water. *All this only a couple feet from shore, very cool. * Hopefully these pictures are viewable....Ryan

I never did fish that one, but from everything I've heard, it's tough. Yeah, those bows were futilely goind through the spawning motions. They need running water to be successful. Looks like you got the pics down in the second attempt.

Heck yeah!! Married one.

Sounds like a nice trip man. I've seen that lake on the maps but have never made the trip. Glad you got a fish for the little ones to touch. Good times to be sure.
